working synergistically with the aim of skin treatment and preservation

RégimA is the most advanced, medically accepted, skin care programme created to attack the ageing free radicals and toxins associated with modern living. These elements are responsible for most of the skin's visible signs of ageing, including loss of skin tone and wrinkles. Without the help of RégimA's technology these toxins will surely cause premature ageing. Years of scientific research have culminated in this ultimate regime, which is simplicity itself.

RégimA is a unique skin rejuvenation and treatment range manufactured for the use of doctors and skin care professionals. Extensive use of the very finest potent natural ingredients from Europe, South Africa and other tropical regions and indigenous wound healing, skin repairing plants, ensures RégimA's status as a skin treatment leader in the world market. We are not just talking 'normal' cosmetics which may feel nice, smell nice and keep the skin hydrated, that is just moisturizing outer dead skin. To really rejuvenate one has to remove that outer layer which shows all signs of ageing, revealing a much fresher, more youthful skin. RégimA is a cosmeceutical focusing not only on AESTHETICS but SKIN HEALTH.

Safely, gently and naturally RégimA helps restore the skin's youthful appearance, improving colour, tone and texture, smoothing away fine lines and uneven skin colour, bringing back that glow of a good, healthy skin, irrespective of age.

RégimA has for several years been formulated for the use of plastic surgeons and dermatologists internationally. Due to the success and demand RégimA created a professional range of skin treatments for use by Skin Care Professionals within selected salons and spas. All salons and spas stocking our professional range undergo strict, regular RégimA training.

How does RégimA work?

Many skin problems are associated with excessive build-up of dead cells, making the skin hardened and dull. Problems are exacerbated by exposure to the sun, pollution and other environmental effects, leading to skin damage and disease. RégimA follows a rule of 'Peel & Heal" and is instrumental in restoring, rejuvenating and preserving.

We do not believe in just peeling the skin, one must repair and restore at the deeper skin level. However, one always has the fear that one is going to thin the skin. The SECRET is always within the formulation and the RégimA 'Peel & Heal' cannot be compared to any other peeling product. We gently, gradually remove the outer dead layer of skin and work down to the dermis (the living layer). The formulation then stimulates collagen production. In essence RégimA 'Peel & Heal' is thickening and re-elastisizing the skin.

RégimA home care benefits from Natural, time dependent fruity acids, Lactic Acid from milk and Malic Acid from apples. These are the most skin friendly, have less irritating effects than certain other acids and achieve maximum effect. These products have a low pH (acidity) that is essential in achieving perfect skin penetration, (something pH balanced products cannot do) working gradually through the outer dead layer to the basal, living layer of skin. Stimulates cell renewal as well as helping collagen production, re-elastisizing the skin naturally. The Natural acids do not work any deeper than the basal layer and there is definitely no long term thinning of the skin and no other long term side effects. Other exciting, safe, natural, acids are used within certain RégimA in-rooms/in-salon treatments. The hibiscus flower acid is the most biodegradable natural acid that exfoliates and smoothes the most sensitive skins without adverse reaction. RégimA combinations of acid increase cell turnover and stimulate collagen synthesis.

Wrinkles There are 3 types:

Expression Wrinkles - Frown and wrinkle lines on the forehead, around the eyes, mouth, in particular the upper lip and naso-labial folds (the lines from nostrils to corners of mouth). The constant pull of gravity or repeated facial movements causes expression wrinkles.

Ageing Derived Wrinkles - These occur naturally over time and may be due to poor collagen turnover, degradation of elastin and poor synthesis of proteins within the skin because of the ageing process.

Metabolic Related Wrinkles - Toxins, free radicals, cause premature ageing of the skin.

RégimA is ahead with regards myorelaxors. These are muscle and nerve relaxors which enhance the use of injected myorelaxors such as Botox. Inhibits contractile fibres in nerve/muscle mechanism. Works on subcutaneous nerves and muscles decreasing expression lines, 'destressing the skin' imparting a much smoother look. Promotes regeneration, increases elasticity and firmness of the skin. Retards skin ageing. Radical Difference and New Expression 3 in 1 relax the muscles that cause frowning and has impact on wrinkles:

Radical Difference Serum - may be applied to the whole of the face (or specific target areas) and, because it has a cumulative effect, should be applied each morning to give an increasingly softer, smoother skin surface.

New Expression 3 in 1 - Myorelaxing, Anti-Puffiness, Anti-Dark Circles

Targets under eyes and crow's feet. Dramatically reduces laughter lines.

Are RégimA products safe?

YES. There are many powerful NATURAL ingredients within the treatment range but all are safe to use by all age groups and even during pregnancy. The only product NOT to be used by pregnant or lactating women would be the Curve Contour Cellulite Controller.

Normal symptoms that MAY be experienced initially due to the potency of the RégimA range

Certain symptoms 'MAY' be experienced during the first few weeks of treatment. However, if one does experience any of these it does not mean that one has an allergy to the product and these cannot be considered side effects. One may feel a tingling and itchiness on application of the night preparations. The intensity of this varies from person to person and some feel nothing. This tingling is due to the product having a low pH (acidity). Dryness and flakiness of the skin MAY be experienced, especially in the more sensitive areas such as nostrils, corners of mouth, upper cheekbones, eyes etc. Wrinkles may initially look worse and pigmentation may look darker. This is due to the separation of the outer dead horny layer from the healthy, new inner living layer. During this initial process the skin MAY dry out a little and one can counteract this by using one of the RégimA products suggested for hydrating a particular skin type eg. Basal Cell Feed, Amino Actives Dry Skin Therapy, Hydration Concentrate, Quantum Elastin Dermal Regenerator, Scar Repair & Anti-Stretch Complex, Post Laser/Post Peel Gel etc. The skin will start to feel tighter as it becomes firmer. One must differentiate between firming/tightening of the skin and dryness. Tight and firm is exactly what one wants. There are many alternatives and your Skin Care Professional will suggest your best option. Also, whatever is sitting under the surface of the skin is likely to come out. The products are not drawing them out they are actually working through that tough outer surface and going down to meet the problem. It may be noted that certain skins tend to have a long-term problem with very uneven little bumps sitting under the surface. In many cases this has been caused by a certain foundation. One should be careful when choosing a foundation, try not to opt for very thick foundations as these can block the pores in certain cases. Avoid foundations with a high fragrance or if they claim to have a high sun protection factor as this is usually mainly titanium dioxide (white pigment used for colour and acts as a sunscreen. This is also the white pigment used in paint!) and in some people this can cause blockage of the pores. As RégimA day products contain sunscreens it is not necessary for the foundation to have a high sun protection factor. Because most foundations can potentially cause blocking, especially in skins with enlarged pores or prone to oiliness, RégimA manufactured plant based, therapeutic foundations. These foundations not only supply the necessary cover, but are healing, repairing, restoring and never block the pores.

It should be remembered that although one MAY initially experience some tingling or irritation on using the concentrated night preparations with the low pH, one achieves much greater and more rapid cell renewal. It has been scientifically proven that photo-aged skin has produced increased amounts of mucopolysaccharides (sugars) and collagen and has had a positive effect on skin thickness without skin inflammation. Most people wish to see and feel an immediate difference and realize it is worth accepting a bit of tingling. Once the skin is in a better condition tingling and itchiness of the skin diminishes dramatically.

The skin's normal pH we are told is 5.5, although this varies from person to person. The pH of our potent night creams is 3 to 3.5 which scientifically and clinically has been proven to be the perfect pH to achieve the best skin penetrance, up to 20 times better than products with a higher pH and they are therefore at the very least 20 times more effective. This also ehances the efficacy and compatibility of the night preparations with the skin. The skin's acid mantle is also maintained to combat skin bacteria. Our time dependent acids within the night creams work on the skin from the moment of application until the moment of neutralization with RégimA cleanser eg. If applied at 10 O'Clock at night and one removes at 7 O'Clock the next morning, natural exfoliation and rejuvenation has been taking place for 9 hours. When using these products it is not necessary to use face scrubs etc.

The RégimA products stimulate cell turnover within the living, basal layer and diminish corneocyte adhesion in the stratum corneum (outer layer). These acids and salts attract more moisture into the skin. This is totally different from most night preparations that are formulated to hydrate and nourish the outer dead layer of skin only. The process of removing the dead skin layer can take upto 8 weeks. (However, this can be sooner if one is undergoing 'Peel & Heal' treatments). Once this is achieved the skin just requires maintenance.

There is a very high percentage of active plant and marine material within the RégimA preparations. These have the job of stimulating, nourishing repairing and providing ultimate rejuvenation. One of the main plants we use is indigenous to Southern Africa and it is incorporated into most products within the range, Centella Asiatica renowned for wound healing properties. Also, laminaria ochroleuca, a brown algae from the South Sea Islands is a major active incorporated to reduce photoinduced inflammation, helps prevent the formation of solar keratoses, is a powerful anti-oxidant, anti-ager and cell protector.

How long should one use RégimA?

The RégimA Skin Treatment Programme can and should be used indefinitely. It is the most effective range and can be used long term with perfect safety. As one gets older the body's cell renewal process is more sluggish and so one tends to develop one problem or another. One can help eliminate these problems and maintain as perfect a skin as possible with RégimA. Collagen III Booster, Basal Cell Feed, Growth Factor Stimulator and Protector and Plant Stem Cells, are just a few options available for retarding the skin ageing process.

Monitoring of the skin

It is advisable, especially as one gets older, or if one has been suffering from a particular skin problem eg. Pigmentation, acne etc. to have the skin checked on a regular basis by your doctor or skin care professional. If one does suffer from a particular skin problem it is recommended that one take a photograph of the face prior to commencing the treatment range. This is always good for comparison later.

Pigmentation?

Pigmentation affects so many people for a variety of reasons. If the cause can be established and eliminated (eg. Pregnancy, the Pill or dehydrating alcohol based cosmetic products stopped) then one has a chance of removing the problem. Skins prone to pigmentation must be extremely careful when considering certain treatments such as laser or certain deep Peels. These can exacerbate an already distressing problem. (One must accept the advice of a doctor specializing in laser therapy, with regards lasering or deep peeling of a pigmented skin).

The 'Peel & Heal' (See under specialized treatments), because of the unique formulation, has proven to be safe and effective for the treatment of pigmentation. It is necessary in certain skin types (especially olive or darker skins) to work conservatively. A series of 'Peel & Heal' treatments, gradually building up the length of time the peel is left on, has been proven to be of most benefit. These peels must be used in conjunction with RégimA Home Care Essentials and MUST NOT be combined with other ranges of products that may not be compatible.

RégimA has been successful in treating pigmentation for many years with a combination of 'Peel & Heal' treatments with our home care essentials. One of the main ingredients used to help combat and control pigmentation is L-Ascorbic Acid, which is the most active form of Vitamin C. (See section on Basic information on some of the actives - Vitamin C). RégimA DOES NOT use kojic acid as it is documented as potentially causing irritation and dermatitis.

Problem Skin?

The low pH (acidity) of RégimA helps to control externally the problems associated with a problem or acneform skin by destroying most skin bacteria which are the main cause of inflammation and cross infection. Many active ingredients known for their acne combating properties, are used to help clear blackheads, refine the pores and have a leveling effect on acne scarring. Formulations using natural anti-inflammatories help calm reddened, inflamed, sore skins and help control breakouts eg. Scar Repair, Quantum Elastin, Amino Actives Problem Skin Therapy, Anti-Acne Ointment, Equilibrium Anti-Problem Skin Serum etc. If one suffers from excessive oil production one may use our B-Complex Daily Radiance containing a seborrhoeic controller, formulated to help repair and nourish with the added bonus of SPF 30, or Optimum Essensitals, supplying a non-greasy day treatment with SPF 15. It is essential to start off the day and night routine by cleansing with RégimA Cleansing & Toning Gel, clearing and tightening the pores. Plants add a Natural skin toning effect, so no extra toner is required.

Broken Capillaries What to do and when to peel?

NOTE: These show sensitivity in that particular area and should therefore not be over-stimulated. We have found that by building up and thickening the skin in those areas the capillaries become less visible or disappear in certain cases. It is suggested that these areas are treated using either Quantum Elastin Dermal Regenerator or Scar Repair morning and night along with the home care essentials prior to 'Peel & Heal'. The 'Peel & Heal' may be applied to the rest of the skin in the interim if so desired.

Basics on how to use RégimA home care essentials?

The full range of products are highly concentrated. It is therefore suggested that only minute amounts of the product be used for each application (a small finger nail amount is all that is required). It is important if one wishes to achieve the best results from the range, not to mix with other products. RégimA has been formulated to work synergistically. Always read the instructions on the container. Certain products, in particular the night creams, must not be applied to the eye area.

Layering of Products - Important Information

It must be stressed that layering of products is very important and has proven to be extremely beneficial in dealing with certain skin problems. For example if the skin is environmentally damaged, fragile, scarred or acne scarred then it is essential that one uses either Quantum Elastin or Scar Repair morning and night under the appropriate RégimA day and night preparations. The unique elastin in these products helps repair, regenerate, re-elastisize and thicken the damaged skin and stimulates collagen production. Also, in the case of hyperpigmentation, it is essential that either C-Innovation Pigment Perfector or Serum C+ Pigment serum is used morning and night under other appropriate products. There are a number of active serums within the range which offer treatment for every possible skin condition or problem puffy tired under eyes benefit greatly from New Expression 3 in 1, Growth Factor Stimulator for the over 40s, Alpha Lipoic for plumping of wrinkles, Radical Difference for relaxing expression lines, and many more. One should leave 2 minutes in between application of each product to allow for penetration. Layering of products does not create a build-up of ingredients in the body. The products work within the dermis and do not work systemically, so there is no possibility of as such 'overdosing, on any of the ingredients. One can only benefit from their combination as they have been manufactured to work synergistically. The doctor or skin care professional would decide on the best combination of RégimA products for each individual patient needs.

Care During Pregnancy

It must also be noted that apart from Curve Contour Cellulite Controller, all RégimA medical and professional products are safe for use during pregnancy and for lactating women. It is, we feel, essential that one should use for example the RégimA Scar Repair & Anti-Stretch Complex 3 times daily on all areas prone to stretch marks throughout pregnancy and during lactation. This procedure has been used extremely successfully by so many mothers over many years, resulting in very happy moms, with little or no stretch marks and happy, healthy babies.

Use of RégimA whilst on certain medication

One must follow the instructions of the prescribing doctor. It has been our experience that whilst on certain treatments that one can safely and successfully use certain RégimA products as described below:

Roaccutane This treatment is extremely successful in treating active acne, teenage or adult, and helping prevent scarring. There are, however, in certain cases, symptoms experienced. The skin and lips may become very dry, tight and pink. We have found that following a very simple regime, during the course of the treatment, one minimizes potential side effects eg. RégimA Cleanser (either Gel or Milk), Quantum Elastin or Scar Repair am and pm with Ultramatte Daily Infusion (unless skin is still very oily or problematic), B-Complex Daily Radiance or Optimum Essentials over the top during the day, one helps to relieve the above mentioned symptoms, prevents the skin from drying out, protects from the sun, aids healing, repair and regeneration. Dryness of the lips has been helped by regular application of Post Laser Gel or Marula Lip Protector. If one is taking a high daily dose of Roaccutane the one would only commence 'Peel & Heal' treatments 6 weeks following cessation of Roaccutane.

Cortisone (steroids also called corticosteroids) - Topical application of cortisone is used successfully to treat many skin conditions. It can, however, if used regularly, have a thinning effect on the skin, cause easy bruising, dilated capillaries and redness and stretch marks in certain individuals. It is essential therefore that the skin is 're-built'. RégimA has done this safely and successfully by implementing a simple regime over the treated areas. If one is undergoing cortisone treatment one should follow the doctors instructions. One can aid the process by adding for example RégimA Quantum Elastin or Scar Repair over the top of the treated area, to be applied at least 15 minutes following cortisone application. If the area is exposed to sunlight one should apply a RégimA day product with SPF. Quantum Elastin or Scar Repair may be applied twice daily during the treatment phase. After cessation of cortisone therapy one would initially follow a simple regime as follows: RégimA Cleanser (Gel or Milk) Quantum Elastin or Scar Repair am and pm with either Ultramatte Daily Infusion, B-Complex, or Optimum Essentials (depending on skin type and preference) over during the daytime and Rejuvoderm or Night Booster over at night.

The ingredients work synergistically to heal, repair, re-elastisize and thicken the skin. The combination stimulates collagen production. One may then gradually introduce other products into the range to combat other skin problems eg Alpha Lipoic to plump out wrinkles, Radical Difference to relax expression lines, Sun Pro over Scar Repair on the body etc.

Renova, Retin-A and Retinol - As so many people confuse Retinol with Retin-A it is necessary to clarify a few points. Renova, Retin-A prescription treatments containing the active ingredient retinoic acid (tretinoin). This has been sold for years under the brand name Retin-A. They are presented in cream or gel forms. In many individuals this prescription treatment is very successful. There are, however, side effects which MAY occur in certain cases. These are dryness, redness, tenderness, swelling and flaking of the skin and sensitivity to sun light and it is essential when on the treatment to use a sunscreen. We recommend a RégimA day preparation containing SPF. Retinol is a Vitamin A derivative. Vitamin A comes in several forms, some are known to have a dermal irritant effect, causing continual skin peeling and redness and photosensitivity. RégimA uses pure retinol in the highest concentration providing all the benefits of Vitamin A without any potential side effects and it is safe to use during pregnancy.

Efudix - This is a topical treatment for pre-malignant or malignant lesions and would be prescribed by a doctor. This causes a marked inflammatory response in the treated area as it erodes the lesions. This is necessary. Severe discomfort may be alleviated with Post Laser Post Peel Gel and it may be used to barrier healthy surrounding skin where necessary. After the doctor completes the treatment one would benefit from the rapid healing effects of Post Laser Post Peel Gel in the initial healing phase (until all scabbing has been removed), followed by Scar Repair to help heal and rebuild. In areas exposed to sunlight one would apply RégimA Sun Pro over the top.

SKIN PEELS

Information & Important Questions Regarding Skin Peels

There are many things said and written about skin peeling. One must always remember that every peel formulation is different and that is where the secret lies. RégimA is a medically accepted unique peeling formulation.

We at RégimA have been manufacturing the 'Peel & Heal' for many years and have achieved amazing results. Our medically approved formula is used successfully internationally, irrespective of climate and seasons. Because we specialize in scar treatments we are several steps ahead of the crowd. Our formulation can and should be used all year round. One starts the process of removing the outer dead layer of skin. This is the layer that gives us wrinkles, pigmentation, sun spots, age spots, everything that retards rejuvenation. The 'Peel & Heal' successfully and very safely, works gradually through that outer dead layer and down to the basal living layer. It stimulates collagen production, thus re-elastisizing and rejuvenating even the most damaged, scarred, sun damaged or ageing skins. Unlike many peels which thin the skin, the RégimA formula helps thicken the skin making it much more youthful and healthy and less prone to cell changes. It contains an abundance of skin and scar healing ingredients blended with only pure, NATURAL, unadulterated acids. Although the 'Peel & Heal' is potent it is still very easily tolerated and one does not have to experience a major peeling to reap the full benefit. With regular peels the skin becomes firmer, smoother, and even in colour and texture.

The RégimA 'Peel & Heal' MUST NOT be compared to any other peel whatsoever. Many other peels are made from basic synthesized (glycolic acid is mostly cheaply synthesized) acids in a gel formula and just strip off the top layer. Some of these other peels are not always safe to use all year around and can cause the skin to be very irritated, sun sensitive and can lead to pigmentation. RégimA DOES NOT make the skin more sun sensitive. It is the safest, most powerful rejuvenator.

NEW AGE 'PEEL & HEAL' - NATURAL FRUIT ACIDS 20%, 40%, 70%, 90%

Benefits ALL Skin Types - even Sensitive Skins - White, Asian, Black Skins, Male and Female All Ages, even very young skins

Smoothes wrinkles and improves sundamaged skin, removes solar keratoses 'sun spots', 'age spots', 'liver spots', helps eliminate and control pigmentation. Helps uneven skin tone, smoothes uneven texture. Helps active acne and improves old acne scarring. Helps level and smooth coarse, lumpy, hypertrophic, keloid scars. Improves flexibility and mobility of hard scarred skin and in certain cases improves function of old scarred areas. Helps restore normal pigmentation.

Skin Rejuvenation & Pigmentation: Expect a tightening, firming of the skin. This is one of the wonderful benefits of this particular peeling treatment. Do not mistake this for the skin being dry. If there is no flaking the skin is more elastisized and firmer, not dry, enjoy it. Smoothes wrinkles and improves sundamaged skin. Removes solar keratoses 'sun spots', 'age spots', 'liver spots'. Helps eliminate and control pigmentation, helps uneven skin tone. Helps active acne and improves old acne scarring. Smoothes uneven skin texture. If one has undergone laser skin resurfacing and wishes to re-capture the post-laser smoothness, then maintenance with the 'Peel & Heal' is simple and effective and if one has undergone liquid nitrogen (burning off) treatment for 'sun spots' previously and has any residual darkened, rough areas, one can be helped with the 'Peel & Heal'.

Scarring: Helps level and smooth coarse, lumpy, hypertrophic, keloid scars. Improves scars many years old and helps soften old skin grafted areas. Improves flexibility and mobility of hard scarred skin. Helps restore normal pigmentation. In certain cases improves function of old scarred areas. Helps improve smoothness and colour of old burn scars. May be applied to old stretch marks and followed up with Scar Repair & Anti-Stretch Complex or Body Toning Treatment for home care.

Who performs the peels, how often, and is it painful?

The 'Peel & Heal' must be performed by either a doctor or a trained skin care professional. A series of peels may be necessary to achieve an optimal end result to a particular problem. It is better and more favourable long-term to start off conservatively with the peels, each treatment time may be increased, dependent on patient/client reaction and tolerance. With a problem such as pigmentation it would be ideal to commence with either a weekly, if tolerated very well, or fortnightly, peel if one does experience peeling. One can then progress to either monthly or six weekly as desired or required.

Dependent on the condition of the skin, on application one experiences a slight stinging/tingling sensation which occurs mostly during the first five minutes following application, but mostly one feels itchiness. It is easily tolerated and one may massage around with the pads of fingers to relieve any itchiness. This generally settles down. The peel will be left on for a period of time at the discretion of the skin care professional. This may be generally between 20 to 60 minutes. It must be thoroughly neutralized using RégimA Cleansing Gel and the first cleanse does sting for a minute or so. This quickly settles down and the appropriate RégimA post peel products will be applied to the area.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Is very well tolerated by most people, even the very young skins (as young as 11 years old). May sting more initially if the skin is dry and out of condition. Known to sting when applied pre-menstrually. Certain times of year may sting more - extremes of cold and hot. Safe to use all year round.

The 'Peel & Heal' will not be applied to any patient/client who is not using the RégimA home care Essentials. The natural peel and the natural products have been formulated to work synergistically and other cosmetic products may not react favourably.

What will I look like after the peel?

Dependent on skin type, a degree of erythema (redness) is experienced during the peel, and one can feel the skin is hot. This is mainly due to the stimulation. The redness usually goes down within a few hours and one looks back to normal. There may be some superficial flaking over the next couple of days but this is easy to handle. One may work and socialize as normal. Only following a deeper peeling session will the skin remain red for a few days. The skin feels smoother and softer immediately following cleansing. In olive or darker skins if there is any peeling the skin may look darker initially on these areas as the dead skin is sloughing off. One must continue with the home care and the peels and this will improve. One must be patient.

Will I peel and for how long?

This unique peel can achieve instant smoothness of the skin without any visible peeling. A certain amount of epidermis is removed when the peel is neutralized but one does not have to have a wholesale peeling of the skin for it to have worked. This is therefore ideal for the working woman or man. One may just experience very superficial flakiness of the skin over the next few days. Obviously if one requires more impact eg. For deeper wrinkles or acne scarring, then one requires the peel to stay on longer, be applied more often and the % would be higher, then there would usually be a certain amount of peeling for several days.

The degree of peeling experienced at the beginning of the treatments depends on the condition of the skin. It does not mean that if you peel once or twice you will peel every time. Reactions vary from session to session dependent on certain factors. If one does not have visible peeling it does not mean the treatment has not been successful.

Contraindications: Natural Product - Only possible symptoms as outlined above. No long-term side effects.

SKIN PEELS - RISKS & BENEFITS

ALPHA HYDROXY ACIDS - TRUTH & MYTH

There is a lot of information out about alpha hydroxy acids, however, much of it is misleading or simply untrue. Separating the truth from the rumours can be nearly impossible for the average person. Here are a few of the common myths surrounding alpha hydroxy acids.

Myth #1: Alpha hydroxy acids thin the skin. Actually, if one is using natural acids, it is quite the opposite. AHA's appear to have dermal affects that influence the formation of collagen. Alpha hydroxy acids, on topical application to photoaged skin, have been shown to substantially increase skin thickness. Skin biopsies reveal increased synthesis of collagen.

Myth #2: Alpha hydroxy acids cause sun sensitivity. Used correctly in natural forms and applied at night only or during an in-salon treatment, alpha hydroxy acids do not increase sun sensitivity. Sun sensitivity occurs when skin is irritated and inflammation occurs as can happen with chemical, synthetic buffered acids. Those with very fair colouring are especially susceptible to this since their skin tends to be more sensitive. For those with more sensitive skin, use of a non-irritating AHA such as lactic acid, will help one avoid this problem.

Myth #3: Use of Salicylic Acid (or another beta hydroxy acid) or a Mechanical Facial Scrub will produce identical exfoliation benefits. Salicylic acid works from the uppermost layer of the skin, dissolving skin layer by layer. Mechanical Scrubs work only to remove already loosened skin cells on the upper layer of skin. Alpha hydroxy acids work at the lowermost levels of the stratum corneum. It appears that AHA's modulate new stratum corneum formation by weakening the bonds between corneocytes (a type of skin cell) at the lowest levels of the stratum corneum. This activity on the formation encourages a smoother, flatter cell layout in the stratum corneum. This new distribution of cells is particularly useful for prepping skin for peels.

Myth #4: Anti-Wrinkle benefits of AHA's are due to their exfoliating nature. While it is true that the exfoliating nature of AHA's contribute to softer skin that is more even in tone, the clinical effects of AHA's in modifying wrinkles and photoageing are due to increased skin thickness and new collagen formation.

Myth #5: When using AHA's, the skin looks smoother because the skin is swollen from inflammation. Improvements in wrinkles are not due to inflammation or any oedema formation (excess accumulation of fluid in tissue spaces). Examination of biopsied skin specimens before and after treatment with AHA's confirm that skin plumpness and other beneficial effects are sustained long after discontinuation of topical treatment.

Chemical peels include NATURAL alpha hydroxy and beta hydroxy peels, as these are plant chemicals and are typically used to restore a youthful, vibrant appearance to wrinkly, blotchy, sun-damaged skin. There are 3 main types of chemical face peels and each has unique benefits for the skin. Light, medium and deep. These all, to some degree, improve acne scars, skin texture, reduce the effects of sun damage, smooth surface wrinkles, correct pigmentation problems and age spots. With most chemical peels adverse reactions are rare, but can, with deeper chemical or synthetic acids, include scarring, infection, hyperpigmentation (patchy darkening of skin) and hypopigmentation (patchy lightening of skin). There are dramatically varying recovery times.

The secret is always within the actual formulation. Always check what the main actives are within the peeling formulation, whether it has been chemically buffered (chemicals have been added to stabilize the product acidity some contain substances such as ammonium hydroxide which is also good for cleaning drains!!) because some of these buffering agents can cause major irritation, which can result in pigmentation. Check whether it is safe to use all year round, or like many, just in the winter time.

HOW TO ACHIEVE AND MAINTAIN SKIN HEALTH

One must always consider more than the aesthetics (the way skin looks), the immediate smoothness that a harsh, buffered, synthetic peel can achieve, and compare this to the therapeutic, skin health issue. We have all heard about malignant MELANOMAs, these are due to cell changes within the melanocytes (pigment cells) within the deep epidermis. Not to forget BASAL CELL CARCINOMAS, these are due to cell changes within the basal layer, again the living part of the deep epidermis as it meets the dermis. If one undergoes regular Peel & Heal treatments and maintains with correct home care, one minimizes the chance of cell changes. One off peels are of little benefit, especially if one has a particular skin problem such as pigmentation or one has previously suffered from skin cancer. A series of peels ensures gradual improvement with the safest and best end result. Many people are not candidates for laser skin resurfacing or deep peels so the RégimA Peel & Heal offers the safest option, with a more gradual improvement which is then easily and cost effectively maintained. RégimA Peel & Heal is safe to use all year round and has proven benefits for all skin types, skin colours, all age groups, male and female. RégimA only uses NATURAL acids and therefore there are no potential side effects.

NATURAL ACIDS COMPARED TO SYNTHETIC ACIDS

Not all alpha hydroxy acids are created equal. Some are more irritating or more moisturizing, some are better for breakouts and some are stronger than others. Natural AHAs are in unbuffered formulations (as opposed to synthesized acids that require buffering to stabilize) and tend to have a greater impact on the skin. One of the significant benefits of alpha hydroxy acids is that they do not increase the blood vessels in the skin like some other acids. Therefore, they do not result in redness of the face and do not exacerbate broken capillaries. Natural acids are more skin friendly, more easily tolerated and offer more benefits without side effects. Natural acids used in RégimA render the Peel & Heal safe to use all year round. The Peel & Heal does not in any way make the skin more sun sensitive. Chemical, synthetic peels, deeper peels such as Trichloracetic Acid (TCA) and Phenol must only be undertaken during winter months. These peels can be effective in certain skin types but are much more high risk of uneven pigmentation and scarring. A phenol peel is only undertaken by a doctor and is usually only undertaken once and the patient will always require a thicker foundation to cover the treated area as inevitably there is pigment loss following this procedure.

IMPORTANT: If the acid is too strong, discoloration may occur, as can scarring, especially for those on Roaccutane. Some people don't respond well to glycolic acid and they break out in fine bumps (notes Dr Cheryl Burgess, Dermatologist, Washington DC). It must be remembered that AHAs (fruit acids in any form) must NEVER be used during the daytime and definitely not in climates exposed to major sunshine.

IMPORTANT: AHAs must only be used at night or during an in-salon treatment for rejuvenation. Synthetic AHAs in particular can cause irritation and when applied in daytime products can ultimately lead to dehydration and pigmentation, even if they contain an SPF. AHAs are time dependent acids and they work constantly on the skin until neutralized off. For this reason it does not make any sense, and is potentially extremely harmful to the skin, if one cleanses with an AHA cleanser, followed by AHA day and night products!!

AHAs & BHA

Malic Acid and Citric Acid are both Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids so provide much more benefit than many other acids.

Because AHAs and BHAs work through natural chemical processes, they can penetrate the skin and produce better results than cosmetic scrubs, which work only on the exposed surface of the skin. And, there is no risk that AHAs and BHA will cause you to lose too much skin. Technically, there is a drop-off rate, meaning the AHA and BHA will exfoliate just the dead or damaged surface skin and leave the healthy skin alone. It is important to note that continued use of an AHA or BHA product is required in order to maintain skin's smooth, even-toned, healthy appearance.

The primary difference between AHAs and BHA is that AHAs are water-soluble, while BHAs are lipid-(oil) soluble. This unique property of BHA allows it to penetrate the oil in the pores and exfoliate accumulated skin cells inside the oil gland that can clog pores. BHA is best used where blackheads and blemishes are the issue and makes them ideal for skin conditions that may be a result of bacteria. AHAs are best for sun-damaged, thickened, dry skin where breakouts are not a problem.

It is interesting to note that AHAs provide the added benefit of helping to keep water in the skin at the same time that exfoliation is taking place. This is due to the way they affect skin cells adding increased protection. AHAs can also increase the production of ceramides in the skin, which help keep it moist and healthy. While BHAs penetrate deeper into the pore than AHAs, it can be less irritating than AHAs. This is due to BHA's relation to aspirin, providing anti-inflammatory properties. AHA and BHA products can definitely smooth the skin, fade signs of sun damage, correct uneven skin tone, improve texture, unclog pores, and give the appearance of plumper, firmer skin (because more healthy skin cells are now on the surface). Unfortunately, they have no residual effect, when you stop using them the skin will go back to the condition it was in before.

LACTIC ACID - Natural

Is the mildest and most effective AHA available and is derived from milk or of plant origin. It is generally recognized that lactic acid is the best performing hydroxy acid and it is therefore a first choice of RégimA. Of all AHAs and BHAs, lactic is one of the most skin friendly and exhibits excellent cell renewal activities. Lactic exhibits additional properties also, it moisturizes and possesses the ability to increase ceramide levels. Lactates are safe and mild and can achieve a significant skin lightening effect. Lactates can be used successfully in combination with other NATURAL AHAs. Lactates work synergistically with Vitamin C with a reported skin lightening result. Formulating at a lower pH, as with the strictly NATURAL acids, there is an increased effectiveness in lightening with better penetration and exfoliating action.

MALIC ACID Natural

Malic Acid is derived from apples and is a first choice of RégimA because it is an AHA and BHA so has dual power providing benefit for more skin types and rejuvenates mature, sun damaged skins as well as unblocking oily, acneform skins. It is a natural humectant, which draws water into the epidermis. This helps keep the skin hydrated. Malic Acid is also a known antioxidant. In addition to its exfoliating and moisturizing properties, malic acid can help protect the skin against free radical damage due to sun and pollution exposure.

CITRIC ACID - Natural

Citric acid is derived from citrus fruits and is a first choice of RégimA because it is an AHA and BHA so has dual power providing benefit for more skin types and rejuvenates mature, sun damaged skins as well as unblocking oily, acneform skins. Citric acid also has the particular benefit of evening out pigmentation. It has a powerful action without the irritation experienced with some other acids that are adulterated by chemical stabilizers.

HIBISCUS FLOWER ACID - Natural

Research shows extracted components of the plant have antioxidant, antitumor, and anti-inflammatory properties. Inhibits pigmentation, limits the melanin transfer and has a moisturizing and lightening effect on the skin while at the same time exfoliating. This subtropical flower contains a mixture of various hydroxyacids and polysaccharides. Their mild action improves the skin's structure and moisturization, makes it look more even. This ingredient is extremely effective in stimulating cell regeneration in the skin - improving the overall condition, health and appearance of the skin.

GLYCOLIC ACID Natural or Synthetic if buffered

The most common AHA peel is glycolic acid. This is a synthetic acid and therefore a very cheap acid to use. Because this is a man made acid it requires chemically stabilizing, which is called buffering. Glycolic penetrates rapidly and is the most irritating of the group. The possibility of irritation makes glycolic more suitable for those with mature or non-sensitive skins. It is NOT a choice of RégimA.

POLYHYDROXY ACID - Natural

Often referred to as lunchtime peels may produce results on early signs of ageing only. Polyhydroxy (PHAs) acids have a large molecular structure so do not penetrate and only therefore work on the outer epidermis. (Ingredients MUST be of a MICROMOLECULAR structure in order to achieve penetration). It therefore works very superficially so is extremely mild. Of course this results in reduced irritation and less potential side effects and there will be no subsequent photosensitivity. Do you know why? Because there is very superficial penetration. This type of 'pseudo peeling' will be achieved by using any face scrubbing, abrasive. There cannot be called a therapeutic action as one achieves with RégimA. These very superficial peels are therefore only beneficial to people in the 20s and 30s with fine lines and very mild pigmentation. They are of little benefit to the mature, sun damaged, ageing skins because of the limited penetration into the skin.

MANDELIC ACID- Bitter almonds

Caution: Requires chemical processing with hydrochloric acid, sodium and potassium cyanide and benzene!!

Has a large molecular structure so causes less irritation than some other AHAs because penetration is more superficial. An extensive chemical process is required to produce a peeling substance for topical application. This process includes the use of hydrochloric acid, cyanide and benzene, which is a known carcinogen! This is an acid that has not yet been used extensively and lacks the medical research backing that other AHAs and BHAs have, so long term side effects have not been established.

To see how mandelic acid is processed visit the following:

TRICHLORACETIC ACID (TCA) - Chemical

Do not take Roaccutane for at least six months after a TCA peel. There are reports of scarring in people who have taken Roaccutane after a TCA peel.

TCA is classified as a medium layer dependent peel and is usually undertaken by a medical practitioner. These peels should only be performed once every couple of years (unless at very low concentrations). The draw back is that a medium peel makes the skin on the face look like a severe sunburn for at least one week and there may be severe crusting, depending on the length of time left on the skin and the condition of the skin. A person having a medium peel must stay in for one week to recover from the procedure. Not everyone is a candidate for this type of peel. Not suitable for young skins, black, coloured or Indian. The results from this peel can be unpredictable and sometimes hyper or hypopigmentation results 6 to 8 weeks following this chemical peel.

PHENOL PEEL - Chemical

This peel is undertaken by mainly plastic surgeons. It is a corrosive, deep peel. It can have significant impact on deep wrinkles, especially around the mouth. However, the drawback is that inevitably there is loss of pigment in the treated area. Phenol peels must be done in a hospital environment because they are known to affect the heart. Because deep chemical peels can cause permanent darkening of the skin, called hyperpigmentation, or permanent lightening of the skin, called hypopigmentation, they are generally not recommended for patients with darker skin. Phenol peels pose a special risk for patients who have a family history of heart disease, so any patient considering the procedure should inform his or her physician in the pre-treatment consultation of any family connection to heart problems. Additionally, because deep chemical peels generally require anesthesia, there is a risk of anesthesia-related complications occurring during the procedure.

IMPORTANT NOTE OF WARNING

Synthetic, chemically buffered acids like glycolic or deeper penetrating acids such as TCA and phenol SHOULD NOT be the acids of choice for younger skins, pigmented, Indian, coloured or black skins as the greater irritation may lead to uneven pigmentation. The more melanin the skin possesses, the greater the danger from deep chemical peels and certain laser treatments.

If undergoing a strong TCA or phenol peel one must take anti-viral medication if one is prone to fever blisters.

RégimA does not use Glycolic Acid for the following reason:

The American Food & Drug Administration (FDA) have for many years written reports on the safety of ingredients used within the cosmetic industry. In a report revised in May 1999 the following statement was made regarding glycolic acid by the FDA in the United States:

FDA: "Another study that looked at the effects of glycolic acid on production of sunburn cells (markers for UV-induced skin damage) found that people who received the glycolic AHA product in the presence of UV radiation experienced twice the cell damage in areas where the glycolic AHA had been applied than those who were treated with the non-AHA product (during the day). FDA's concern is that people who are sensitive to sunlight may be particularly susceptible to UV rays, which can damage the skin and, over a long period, can cause skin cancer."

What does Buffering of Acids Mean?

Synthetic (man made) acids/peeling agents require buffering (stabilizing of the acidity pH) using chemical agents in order to stabilize. Some of the chemicals used in synthetic peels are very harsh eg. Ammonium hydroxide (which is used as a drain cleaner!!). Some of these chemicals cause severe skin irritation and subsequent pigmentation. Buffered acids are used by some companies for in-salon treatments and home care (not used by RégimA). Synthetic acids such as glycolic, are cheaper to manufacture. Certain chemicals may have an irritating effect in certain skins. Synthetic acids can cause a short, sharp, shock to the skin. When this occurs one may experience superficial peeling, however, there is no long-term therapeutic action. Natural AHAs do not require any chemical intervention to stabilize, are more easily absorbed and cell regeneration is enhanced with more rapid healing and without irritation.

RégimA only uses NATURAL acids so NO chemical buffering is required & therefore there are no potential side effects

Maintenance

SCARS

THE GOOD THE BAD THE UGLY - You have a Choice

Operative & Trauma Scars, Burns & Scar Prevention

Stretch Marks Treatment & prevention

The management of a scar after trauma or surgery is as important as the operation itself in achieving an optimal final result. Most people at some time in their lives will have to deal with a scar. It must be remembered that scars can never be removed completely. Scar formation is the normal way for the body to repair itself. The way it is treated from day one, however, will dictate whether one is left with a flat, white, mature scar or a lumpy, hypertrophic, unsightly scar. Sometimes if left untreated, one may develop thickened, red, inflamed, itchy, hypertrophic or keloid scars. This very often depends on the location of the scar. The objective of the RégimA Scar Treatment is to help mature a scar as quickly as possible, promoting balanced collagen production and improved wound healing in new and old scars, achieving an optimal final result.

Through many years of researching ingredients and techniques for decreasing scar formation it has been found that when certain factors are combined one may reduce the maturation time of a scar, achieving a more acceptable cosmetic appearance.

When treating a new scar it is essential not to apply any fragranced tissue or vitamin E oils to the scar. This can in certain cases lead to intense irritation, inflammation and subsequent breakdown of the scar and pigmentation.

RégimA SCAR REPAIR & ANTI-STRETCH COMPLEX

Used extensively and #1 choice of leading plastic surgeons

Scar Repair is an incredibly versatile product. It can be used for new scars, accelerating the healing process in the critical initial inflammatory phase and it has been seen to help flatten and mature old scars that have remained lumpy, red and irritable. Effective as a preventative and 'treatment' for stretch marks. It has also been seen clinically to have a calming, healing effect on acneform skins.

NEW SCARS: Ideally one should start applying Scar Repair immediately following suture removal. The cream may be applied and massaged directly into the wound 3 to 4 times daily, or it may be applied over the top of Micropore tape. It is not essential that one tapes a new scar but it helps the process, especially if the scar is over a bony area, breasts or abdomen, where there is a lot of movement and friction from clothing.

Plastic surgeons have for many years found that taping new scars using microporous paper tape applied immediately following suture removal has resulted in a reduction in scar width and thickness. By applying Scar Repair over the top of the tape allows the cream to impregnate the tape and work like a 'slow release medicine' onto the scar. The tape also applies sufficient pressure required to support the wound. However, there is more to scar treatment. The inflammatory phase is the initial and most important stage requiring treatment. It is essential that excessive inflammation be prevented during scar treatment to reduce the swelling, redness and pain associated with untreated or badly treated scars. Swelling of the immediate scar area is inevitable as a result of the activity of various cell hormones released in and around the fresh scar. Too much swelling can result in the accumulation of a highly concentrated fibrogen gel that can mature into a thick, dense, binding scar. RégimA scar treatments contain an abundance of renowned wound healing plants including Centella Asiatica being the main one, bulbinella frutescens etc. Centella exhibits wound healing and anti-inflammatory activities as well as being a strong antioxidant, which stimulates the formation of lipids and proteins necessary for healthy skin. Centella has the ability to influence the inflammatory process in wound healing. A liposomic complex helps carry the powerful natural ingredients deep into the dermis. Once in the skin the liposomes 'fall apart' releasing their valuable load into the cells.

Method of Application: It is advised that to achieve ultimate benefit from the scar treatment programme one should tape down the scar using Micropore paper tape following suture removal (The width of the tape must be sufficient so as to cover and support the scar completely - Micropore 24 mm width tape is usually used) where possible. (Obviously this would prove to be difficult and a tell tale sign in the case of a face lift. (one must never tape the upper eyelids) In the case of a face lift or eyelid surgery, the cream would be applied alone at least 3 times daily and massaged with light pressure to all the scars. The tape should be applied to a clean scar and there must be no greasiness on the surrounding skin. The tape should be applied firmly and should overlap the scar by at least 0.5 cm at each end. The Scar Repair is then applied sparingly to the surface of the tape, down the centre on top of the tape, avoiding the edges and ends so as not to cause stickiness and lack of tape adhesion. The tape must be left on until it comes off naturally (usually approximately 5 days). One should bath or shower with the tape in place. Once the tape shows signs of lifting it should be very gently removed so as not to cause any inflammation. One must not put tape on and remove on a daily basis as this causes too much irritation. One should continue the procedure of taping with the Scar Repair over the top until the scar becomes paler and flat indicating maturation. A scar normally takes a year to heal but the Scar Repair, if used correctly and regularly, will accelerate scar maturation as never before. One should tape where possible for a couple of months, especially scars in certain areas, and then use the Scar Repair alone. The length of time would vary from person to person. This also depends on the position of the scar. Certain areas tend to heal more slowly and develop stretched or thickened scars eg. Chest, over joints or bony prominences. For a lipectomy (tummy tuck) for example it is essential to tape the scar and apply Scar Repair over 3 times daily if one is to achieve the best result. It can otherwise be a problem area. One should also remember that smokers heal much more slowly.

OLD SCARS: If a scar is flat, stretched and white this indicates a mature scar and there is little that can be done to improve them other than excision and deal with a new scar. One should note that excision of a scar usually leaves one with a slightly larger scar. This must always be discussed with your doctor.

If a scar is pink, purple, lumpy, itchy and tender this indicates an immature, hypertrophic or keloid scar, irrespective of how old it is, and one can do something about it. If appropriate the scar should be taped with the Scar Repair Complex applied over the top 4 times daily. If it cannot be taped one should massage the Scar Repair, applying pressure into the scarred area, 3 times daily. This should be continued until the scar becomes paler and flatter.

If one has for example acne scarring or active acne one may use Quantum Elastin Dermal Regenerator morning and evening or Scar Repair. The anti-inflammatory action helps calm an acneform/problem skin and the unique elastin (unique synthesized elastin replicates human elastin) within the formulations helps to repair and rebuild the damaged skin. This product should be used in conjunction with RégimA day and night home care essentials.

STRETCH MARKS New & Old: Stretch marks occur for many reasons and some skins are more susceptible than others. Stretch marks are fine scars caused by tearing in the dermis (living layer of skin). The dermis is where our skin produces collagen and elastin fibres that give it a firmer, younger appearance. The scars occur when skin is stretched to the point of breakdown, like elastic losing elasticity, at which point these tears start to show through the epidermis. If the stretchmarks are still pink or purple then they can still be treated and one should start Scar Repair asap. Peel & Heal treatments on the damaged areas also help reduce and repair.

RégimA Scar Repair & Anti-Stretch Complex helps generate new skin cells and repairs the damaged scar tissue and helps prevent further stretching. It is an effective repair and preventative treatment, however, obviously the oilier or younger the skin, the more elastic it is and therefore the skin's response is quicker because it needs less elastic proteins to repair. Therefore the drier and less elastic the skin will require more long-term Anti-Stretch treatment. Stretch marks cannot be eliminated completely. However, it has been seen in clinical practice that one can make them look a lot better and proper early care lessens the impact and helps prevent further damage. Our aim is to deeply nourish the skin to start with, penetrate through to the dermis and heal, thicken and re-elastisize. With continued use the skin will become stronger and more elastic, giving one the ability to stretch more without damage. Anti-Stretch penetrates through the epidermis (outer horny layer of skin) down into the dermis regenerating new cells. It is a 'prevention as well as a treatment'. The healing plants and our special Elastin, work synergistically healing and repairing. We help to eliminate the incessant itching associated with stretch mark development, thus helping in the prevention process. One must allow 2 to 3 months to see improvement, this varying again on the age and elasticity factors.

Method of Application - Whether for repair or prevention:

Morning and evening massage into stretch prone areas such as abdomen, breasts, buttocks, thighs. Continue during pregnancy and dieting.

Recommended during pregnancy

TISSUE RESURRECTOR & HEALING ACCELERATOR

Strictly for use on hard to heal wounds. It is particularly beneficial for people with poor circulation, diabetes, compromised immune system, stubborn wounds/scars which remain inflamed, irritated, ulcerated etc. This product would be prescribed by a doctor or skin care professional working in conjunction with medical practitioners. Tissue Resurrector would be used until the wound closed and would then be followed by RégimA Scar Repair.

POST LASER/ POST PEEL TREATMENT

Deep skin resurfacing laser treatment is performed by a doctor and it is essential that the skin has the correct home care products. There are certain potential side effects to laser therapy that can be eliminated if treated correctly. The laser is a controlled burn of the skin to smooth wrinkles or scarring. The Post Laser Post Peel Gel is formulated to treat the induced burn, to accelerate the healing process. We supply a full Laser Pack providing pre and post laser essentials. Ask your doctor for the Laser Pack.

RégimA Post Laser/Post Peel Gel has been found to have remarkable properties. It has been used by plastic surgeons internationally also following trauma injuries eg. Dermabrasion, deep abrasions following road traffic accidents that result in extensive deep crusting and subsequent pigmentation. The Laser Gel quickly loosens the crusting whilst accelerating the healing process. It has also been seen to be helpful in certain cases for eczema and psoriasis. Burns following assessment of the degree of burn and initial treatment by a doctor to ensure not open to infection. Laser Gel may be used to help prevent crusting, pigmentation and accelerate the healing process.

Post Laser/Post Peel Gel is essential post deep peeling treatment. It is recommended following laser hair removal, waxing of delicate skin areas where irritation may occur. One would apply the Gel alone for the first few days following a deep peel to avoid crusting and promote more rapid healing.

COLLAGEN - What is it?

Collagen is the most important building block in the world and accounts for more than 75% of the body's protein. Collagen gives skin strength, suppleness, elasticity, youthful plumping of the skin. Collagen synthesis requires several steps of maturation in the presence of Vitamin C and iron. In the case of Vit C and iron deficiency one produces abnormal collagen, resulting in wrinkles, irrespective of how young or old one may be. It is not just the amount of collagen that is critical but also the quality.

COLLAGEN III BOOSTER - Why is it important?

Collagen III is abundant in young skins providing springy, highly elastic skin, but this declines and by adulthood one only has Collagen I. This peaks at the age 35 and by 60 all collagen is significantly depleted. RégimA Collagen III Booster kick starts your own body into reproducing essential, age reversing collagen. Powerful ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid, known as the 'key to the fountain of youth' in penetrating microspheres, hematite, anti-ageing jewel, an iron rich extract, coenzyme Q10 boosting skin repair and regeneration, Vitamin C etc. Benefits all age groups which require collagen boosting.

GROWTH FACTOR STIMULATOR & PROTECTOR - Recommended for over 40s

Growth factors make up a complex family of substances produced by the body and control cell growth and cell division. Unfortunately growth factors diminish and degrade with age, decreasing cell multiplication. RégimA targets the Fibroblast Growth Factor because it plays a central role in healing processes, stimulates cell multiplication as well as collagen and hyaluronic acid synthesis, giving skin volume and fullness. RégimA Growth Factor Stimulator mimics the action of these proteins resulting in a firmer, younger looking skin. (This product DOES NOT contain human growth factors or hormones)

PRESERVATIVES - BE INFORMED NOT HOODWINKED

UNBELIEVABLE SAFETY: From the start, the TRUTH is that it would take the application to the skin of 72,000 layers of a product containing parabens to produce an oestrogenic effect Have milk in a cup of coffee and get more oestrogenic effect!! READ ON AND DO NOT BE HOODWINKED

We have all heard how preservatives are supposed to be bad for you. In most cases, they are actually good and very essential for most cosmetics. The warm and damp area of your bathroom, where people use and store many cosmetic products, can be an ideal environment for micro-organisms to grow in your cosmetics. Micro-organisms can also find their way into cosmetics through cross-contamination when a cosmetic or its applicator touches your skin or hair and then touches the cosmetic again. Preservatives are important ingredients of cosmetics designed to protect the consumer's health: they prevent product spoilage and protect cosmetics against potential pathogens which are a high health hazard. About 50 preservatives have been approved for the preservation of cosmetic products. However, only few of them develop a broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity.

All products that contain natural ingredients must contain preservatives otherwise they would rot within a week. The safest form of preservative used by most cosmetic houses in the world are parabens. Parabens are also the preservatives of choice for most food stuffs, milk, jam etc and even baby products. These preservatives have been used successfully and safely for more than 50 years. Other product preserving ingredients can cause more harm to the skin. These can be in the form of Ethanol (alcohol) which should only really ever be used in anti-acne products and in minimal percentages. All the scientific literature states that ethanol should never be used on a continual basis on any skins as it has dehydrating effects which long-term will be harmful and in many cases will lead to pigmentation, premature wrinkling and ageing of the skin. If the percentage of ethanol is high within a product it then requires a substance such as glycerol (glycerin) to help prevent total skin dehydration. Glycerol is sometimes used as mild preservative, in conjunction with other agents. Glycerol is what is known as a humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the atmosphere. However, if there is no moisture in the air, as is experienced in dry climates such as Johannesburg in the winter and Cape Town in the summer, (If the humidity of your skin is higher than the atmosphere also with air-conditioning) then glycerol, especially in the presence of ethanol, is going to take out the moisture from the deeper layers of skin dehydrating. Butylene Glycol, Salt (Sodium Chloride) drying effects. Benzoates are also used as preserving agents and these are potential carcinogens. Tea Tree Oil is also used as a preservative, but, is not always compatible with ingredients that are used for hydration etc. Certain Root Oils may have a mild preserving effect. Newer preservatives were released a couple of years ago in Europe and have already been withdrawn because of their potential long-term risks. Sometimes a combination of preservatives, in higher concentrations are added to products. The addition of higher concentrations of preservatives to products (always according to regulations) in order to avoid contamination could solve the problem in some instances, but this approach is not practical since it could generate toxicity for the consumer. Preservatives should never be used to mask poor manufacturing practices.

The percentage of preservative within a product is important. One will know the percentage of preservative there is within a product by looking at the ingredient list and seeing whether the preserving ingredients are near the top or bottom of the list. Within RégimA we use the lowest necessary for preservation of a maximum of 0.1%. There is a much greater risk to humans if products are not preserved and become contaminated

Be very wary of companies stating that their products are preservative-free. There could be a few explanations for this. Either, the formulation is purely chemical, or there are no or extremely low percentages of actives, or there are ingredients within the formulation that have preserving effects (like those stated above) and they are just not telling you that.

If the main concern is that certain preservatives may have an oestrogenic effect then just think about every time you purchase any meat, chicken, milk, eggs with every bite or sip of the above one is ingesting (which is worse) high percentages of hormones that have been fed to animals. One would need to become a vegan vegetarian to try and avoid this. If one considers this route then also consider the pesticides that are used in almost all farms. Parabens applied topically would not even give as much potential oestrogenic effect as one cup of coffee with milk per week!

The controversy regarding parabens was started by a British researcher who conducted a study strictly on under arm deodorants and she was giving high doses to rats orally and via injections. This article was totally dismissed by the British CTFA director general, Dr Christopher Flowers.

What Are Parabens?: Parabens are a very common group of organically synthesized preservatives used in cosmetics as well as drugs and foods. As a group of multiple compounds, they include methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, isobutylparaben, and butylparaben. Like most preservatives, they are antimicrobial, meaning they prevent the growth and reproduction of bacteria, mold, and fungi. This attribute allows parabens to keep products safe for repeated consumption. All daily use, personal care products must contain some form of preservation.

How one uses Parabens: Parabens are used to maintain product freshness because of their proven safety record and low irritation profileand at extremely low levels (FDA recommends between 0.1% to 0.8%). RégimA formulates its products within the lowest range of the guidelines (0.1% to 0.2%) for the beneficial qualities and safety that parabens provide.

FDA and CTFA Proclaim Parabens Safe for Cosmetic Use

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Cosmetic Toiletries and Fragrance Association (CTFA) have thoroughly researched the use of parabens in cosmetics. The FDA regulates product safety, and the CTFA provides specific ingredient safety through the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Board (CIR). The CIR is an independent panel of renowned physicians and scientists that reviews ingredients used in cosmetics since 1976. Both organizations continue to review research on parabens and, as recently as 2004, proclaimed them safe and effective for use in cosmetic formulations.

Commitment to Safety: RégimA monitors scientific research on all our ingredients, including parabens, to ensure our distributors can offer safe and efficacious products. The majority of paraben research for the past 50 years supports the safety of parabens in consumer use. However, misinformation circulated about recent paraben studies has caused undue concern that parabens may have weak oestrogenic effects. Putting these study results into perspective is important as we determine whether or not parabens are safe for use in cosmetics. There are many other common substances, such as SOY, that have more substantial oestrogenic properties, but because these substances have been used culturally for centuries without harmful effects they do not raise concern. Additionally, the recent paraben studies were conducted with exaggerated levels of test material ingested or injected into animals rather than applied topically. The conclusion that parabens at extremely low levels in a topical application would produce a similar outcome as an exaggerated use test is without direct evidence and unproven. Since cosmetic products have very low levels of parabens, it is unscientific to assume they could be absorbed through the skin in any significant amount to create adverse effects. In fact, to date there are no scientific studies that show a causal link between topical products that contain parabens and detrimental effects. The CTFA asserted in a statement on April 17, 2003:

Suggestions that parabens have an oestrogenic potential or affect the male reproductive system are not relevant to the cosmetic use of these ingredients. The level of parabens used in cosmetics is extremely low. (CTFA Response Statement, April 17, 2003; RSPT 03-12)

The long history of paraben use in cosmetics, backed by the continued, careful research of the cosmetic industry, FDA, and other qualified sources, reassures our pledge of "all of the good, none of the bad."

PARABENS CRITICAL INFORMATION

The studies that were conducted in the UK by Dr Phillippa Darbre, a researcher, were controversial and denounced by the scientific world. Her findings were strongly contradicted by other doctors, one being Dr Christopher Flowers a toxicologist and the Director General of the CTPA (Cosmetic Toiletries and Perfumes Association) in London, England.

Her report was conducted claiming that underarm deodorants can be harmful. This was proven not to be the case. At that point there were 3324 new deodorants on the market and only 12 contained parabens (many are preserved with alcohol etc).

The studies were conducted on rats and they were using totally unrealistic levels of parabens injected subcutaneously and given orally to the rats. Even under normal circumstances the levels given to the rats equate with the overall effect of parabens being 2.4 billion times weaker than oestrodial. Compare this with dietary phytoestrogens consumed orally daily via milk, soya, jam, royal jelly etc. Parabens are also present in some breast cancer treatments. The daily dose of 'the pill' taken by women is 10,000 times more oestrogenic than parabens.

The studies showed that even with the huge oral intake given to the rats there was no harm to them because there was rapid and complete biodegradation and excretion from the body. Parabens have a large molecular structure so do not penetrate into the system. Their function is to catch microbials and therefore they stay on the membrane. There is complete biodegradation with topical application of parabens.

In the case of butyl paraben, an excessive dose required to exhibit an oestrogenic effect would be at least 72,000 times the highest topical application rate in humans, thus demonstrating an unbelievable margin or safety.

RégimA uses the lowest levels of parabens 0.1% maximum and the accepted normal levels approved by the FDA are 0.8%. We also use EDTA which has a preservation effect plus L-Ascorbic Acid (the most powerful form of Vitamin C). What must be stressed is that there are worldwide regulations regarding cosmetics and all RégimA products are submitted for strict toxicology testing and toxicology certificates are obtained. One must always look realistically at the comments given and always obtain the necessary data. The only people who can legitimately make any claims are toxicologists who would be testing particular products. Do not listen to the scare tactics banded about by cosmetic houses in order to promote their own ranges of products. If products contain any natural ingredients it is essential that they are preserved in one way or another otherwise they will deteriorate rapidly. Be warned that many are using ETHANOL which has extreme dehydrating effects on most skins and this can in turn lead to pigmentation when exposed to the sun and premature wrinkling and skin ageing. Other product houses are using BENZYL ALCOHOL or other preservatives from the benzoate family. These substances are toxic and known to be carcinogenic. All RégimA ingredients are approved by the world authorities and all RégimA products undergo very regular stringent testing.

Remember that parabens have one of the longest histories regarding preservation and if they were so harmful they would not be used in most baby products and most foodstuffs. Always put things in perspective and realize that if tests are conducted on animals, (note the tests were not undertaken topically) then question what dosage and application has been used.

One must always be wary of lectures regarding ingredients where the speakers are in the employ of, or benefit financially from particular product houses for making certain statements.

SUNBURN, SUNSCREEN & SKIN CANCER

Confusing research findings, Sun, Skin Cancer and Vitamin D

Ideally a sunscreen should be applied half an hour prior to sun exposure. One must always apply a decent layer to all exposed areas and DO NOT rub into the skin until the cream is dispersed.

It is not just the sunscreens within a product that protect from burning, it is a combination of natural, powerful, active ingredients, certain algae and plants, Vit C, polyphenols etc.

Some plants have natural defenses against the damaging rays of the sun. For example, certain algae that thrive in the sea make their own sunscreen. Scientists have isolated the proteins that these plants produce when sunlight gets too intense. The protein acts as a solar deflector by funnelling light down to where photosynthesis takes place. Excess light which could interfere with photosynthesis is shunned by a yellow-orange pigment produced by the algae.

Sunlight in moderation is good for us but overexposure to sunlight has the same effect on our skin as superficial thermal burns. Sunlight can improve acne and provide a major source of Vitamin D.

We are now used to warnings about the damage that the sun can do and statistics on skin cancer cases are worrying. There has been a two-thirds increase in skin cancer since 1990.

Recently there have been some confusing findings in research on our skin and the effects of the sun. The link between the harmful effects of exposure to ultraviolet rays and skin cancer are being questioned. A researcher from the University of Manchester, England, has supported other research findings from Harvard University, USA, to say that totally blocking the sun with sunblock creams can interfere with Vitamin D production and fighting some forms of cancer.

Sun exposure might help fight cancer?

So the very thing that causes skin cancers has a role in fighting cancer. Part of the reason is that our sources of vitamin D are small if you factor out the sun. Vitamin D is found in only a few types of food, things like sardines. Most diets are not rich in sardines so the sun is the main vitamin source. Sunscreen stops UV rays damaging skin but stops the production of vitamin D too.

Sun damage warnings exaggerated?

No. Do not rip off your shirt, forget the sunscreen and ignore the traditional warnings. The research, while recognizing the positive role of the sun in contributing to our health and fighting cancer, says we do need brief exposure. The definition of brief is a very short period of sunlight. The British research defines the short period of tan time without sunscreen as 10 to 15 minutes at noon! I do not need to tell you about the weather in England to tell you that equivalents in places with very strong sunlight might factor down to a very short time indeed.

With skin cancers of all kinds increasing at an alarming rate and the deadliest form, malignant melanoma, threatening to surpass all other malignancies as the number one cancer in America within twenty years, it is imperative we investigate all treatment strategies, prevention and most important the causes without delay.

Conventional thinking to protect your self against skin cancer is to cover up and apply sunscreen. The use of sunscreens became popularized in the 1960s and was touted as our best protection against the damaging rays of the sun. With a strong and unrelenting advertising campaign, sunscreens were soon incorporated into American culture (and soon thereafter around the world). Dermatologists soon began to endorse their use and the new era of skin cancer protection via sunscreens was heralded in.

Oddly enough, since their introduction, skin cancer rates began to climb and not fall. For example, melanoma rates doubled from 6 to 13 per 100,000 people since 1973. Proponents of sunscreen believe that many stay in the sun too long without reapplying, thus increasing their risks of getting skin cancer; while others point out that many people fail to apply the sunscreen in "hidden" areas such as behind the ears, thus increasing skin cancer risk with increased exposure. Then there are those who state that sunscreen has never been proven to prevent skin cancer and point to the lack of any controlled studies. There is also the school of thought that states a blocking agent can save the skin from sun damage and possibly skin cancer, and it is not sunscreen per se but what is in the sunscreen. It is that question that is the most disturbing.

With the exception of a very few, sunscreens are a combination of chemicals designed to protect the skin from UVB rays. SPF or sun protection factor is the ratio of the amount of UV it takes to produce redness or erythema on sunscreen applied skin. It is then compared to unprotected skin for 24 hours to see how much UV radiation it takes to have a similar effect. So if it takes 10 minutes for your skin to redden a bit, an SPF of, let's say 8, should allow you to stay in the sun eight times longer or eighty minutes before you start to redden.

Sunscreen alone is not the best protection against skin cancer. Studies are lacking proving they prevent basal cell cancers and melanoma. Yet most public health officials and dermatologists persist in insisting that sunscreen use or abstinence from the sun is our best protection. Today skin cancer rates climb to record high levels as sunscreen sales go through the roof. While some point to the sunbathing habits and a 20-year lag time between diagnosis, sunbathing too was popular in the 1920s and 30's. It wasn't until the 1960s and 1970s particularly, when skin cancer rates of all kinds began to spiral upward.

Natural sunlight is necessary for good health. Without it our planet would cease to exist. Time in the sun is a question of balance. Daily moderate exposure enables the body to produce Vitamin D and synthesize melanin (our body's natural sunscreen). Overexposure to the sun causes photo-damage to the skin, actinic keratoses (sun spots), a precursor to squamous cell carcinoma. It is also immunosuppressive and accelerates skin aging. Underexposure is dangerous as well, as one becomes "light deficient." Light deficiency induces Vitamin D deficiency, thus accelerating melanoma growth risks.

A study published in CANCER (March 2002: 94:1867-75) - Rates of thirteen types of cancer were found to be higher in New England where people may not be synthesizing Vitamin D at all due to lack of sunlight in the wintertime. Deaths from cancers of the rectum, stomach, uterus, bladder and others were nearly double of that of people in the southwest. Dietary patterns were compared and little difference was noted. Most sunscreens are designed to block UVB rays. Vitamin D is synthesized from UVB. In light of this report and others, along with epidemiological studies linking lack of sun exposure to sub-optimal Vitamin D levels, it may be time to re-evaluate our notions of sun exposure and its effect on our health.

Controversial Sunscreens

RégimA for the present is sticking with tried and tested older technology. Our decision is scientifically based because new technology regarding sunscreens has brought micronization to what were previously simply reflectives. SPF 15 is a total sunscreen and when combined with other sun protecting ingredients, we feel is adequate and a safer alternative. The only difference with a higher SPF is the length of time of protection. There are certain circumstances where RégimA offers upto SPF 30 and these products were formulated in order to protect the skin following medical skin resurfacing laser or dermabrasion to help prevent post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

RégimA holds the view that it is overexposure to the sun and burning that cause the damage. Sunlight provides the main source of Vitamin D. Our views are based on the scientific studies conducted at Harvard and Manchester Universities stating that high sun blocking creams can interfere with Vitamin D production and the fighting of certain cancers including breast, ovarian, uterine, colon, prostate etc. The studies conducted have shown that sunlight appears to be a key element in preventing some of these most dangerous cancers. Vitamin D3 in particular is a potent anti-cancer nutrient/hormone, as well as maintaining normal blood calcium levels, essential for strong bones.

Sunscreens in RégimA

Benzylidene camphor, butyl metoxydebenzoylmethane, OMC, plus a natural suspension paste which blends without blocking the pores or causing irritation. This combination of sunscreening agents, vitamin C and special algae that reduce photoinduced inflammation, help prevent the formation of solar keratoses when used during and following sun exposure, have been used for many years. RégimA has used OMC in combination with several other sun screening ingredients in products used post operatively following laser skin resurfacing, dermabrasions etc, protecting from post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, milia etc. There have been no reports of adverse effects whatsoever from the sunscreens used. One must always put in perspective media hype regarding any ingredients.

OMC

The Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority did a trial using mice and then stated that OMC could damage human cells if it penetrates skin. The findings of the study were dismissed by the Cosmetic Toiletry and Perfumery Association which represents sunscreen manufacturers in Britain. They stated that the findings could not be applied to people who use sunscreens normally. They said that OMC was used in 90% of sunscreens around the world, had been thoroughly tested and was approved by the authorities in the UK and the USA. "OMC" is approved and listed in the Cosmetics Directive and approved by the Food & Drug Administration Sunscreen Monograph in the USA as a safe and effective sunscreen". "OMC has been approved for use as a sunscreen for many years and has been thoroughly tested for safety". Dr Charlotte Proby, a consultant dermatologist with the Imperial Cancer Research Fund said " It is difficult to extrapolate from laboratory experiments in mice to humans out in the sun. Using sunscreens to prevent sun damage to cells is likely to reduce the risk of skin cancer development, and is far better than not using any sun protection at all".

Titanium Dioxide

One of the most controversial of the sunscreens is titanium dioxide and is NOT used in RégimA products. Titanium is used in many sunscreen products and most foundations. The following is a scientific article:

Titanium Dioxide: Toxic or Safe?

By Lori Stryker, B.Sc., B.H.Ec., B.Ed.

Titanium dioxide is the subject of new controversy because it is now in a micronized form. Titanium dioxide is chemically processed to remove these impurities, leaving the white pigment. It is found in many products, ranging from paint to food to cosmetics. In cosmetics, it serves several purposes. It is a white pigment in foundations and a sunscreen. Concern has arisen from studies that have pointed to titanium dioxide as a carcinogen and photocatalyst, thus creating fear in consumers.

One form of mineral or mineral extract, including titanium dioxide, that we should be concerned about is ultrafine or nano particles. (This is the micronized form now used by many cosmetic houses).

Scientific Study - Kumazawa, et. al. in their study,

"Effects of Titanium Ions and Particles on Neutrophil Function and Morphology" concluded that cytotoxicity (danger to the cell) was dependent on the particle size of titanium dioxide. The smaller the particle size, the more toxic it is. This conclusion is relevant to the consumer because of the cosmetics industry's increasing use of micronized pigments in sunscreens and colour cosmetics. Nanoparticles of titanium dioxide are used in sunscreens because they are colourless at that size and still absorb ultraviolet light. Many cosmetic companies are capitalizing on metal oxide nanoparticles. We have seen, however, that if titanium dioxide particles used to act as a sunscreen are small enough, they can penetrate the cells, leading to photocatalysis within the cell, causing DNA damage after exposure to sunlight (Powell, et. al. 1996) The fear is that this could lead to cancer in the skin. Studies with subjects who applied sunscreens with micronized titanium dioxide daily for 2-4 weeks showed that the skin can absorb microfine particles. These particles were seen in the percutaneous layers of the skin under UV light. Consumers should avoid using products with micronized mineral pigments, either in sunscreens or colour cosmetics.

YOUTH

SIMPLY AWESOME YOUTH SKIN CARE

THE REASON WHY YOUTH SHOULD CARE FOR THE SKIN

FACT: Nearly 85% of young people develop acne. You have a choice, you can sit back and blame it on genetics, your age, or you can do something about it and try prevention. We all know that the skin is the largest organ in the human body. Besides holding our insides together, it also plays a leading role in how we appear to others and ourselves. Skin is also an organ that cannot be transplanted so what you do with it from a very young age determines how you will always look and how healthy your skin will be. Reality is that skin cancer does not only affect older people. Establishing a daily skin care regime is a necessity and it is not rocket science.

Certain factors can cause skin flare ups:-

• Wouldn't you know it the hormones are the main culprit - unfortunately you

can't avoid this one but try and minimize the effects

• Friction caused by leaning on or rubbing the skin - A reason why flare ups

happen during exams - stressful times

• Pressure from bike helmets, backpacks, tight collars

• Environmental irritations - pollution & high humidity when oil & sweat are

dual culprits

• Of course squeezing & picking - what starts off as miniscule ends up resembling a traffic light or an alien - sound familiar - every time you do that you leave blemishes & scars & the healing process has to start again from square one

• Hard scrubbing of the skin - your skin is oily, not dirty - don't do damage & cause scarring

• Sporty guys & girls tend to get lots of whiteheads around the hairline because of the oil & excess sweat build-up so cleanse asap after all sports, including swimming to get rid of the chlorine

• Going to bed without cleansing off all make-up - Oh that is such a no no

• Wrong cosmetics and foundations that are too thick - don't hide - get your canvas clean & smooth & you will be amazed

• Alcohol, smoking, poor diet all affect the skin in a negative way

FACT: Oil is the reason your dead skin cells are sticking around. Remember that the 'black' appearance of blackheads is not caused by dirt, but by the oxidising effect of air on the oil in a blocked pore and the dead cells. If you want to unplug these cleanse & exfoliate, but don't go ballistic and scrub your skin until it bleeds! This will just produce mega amounts of oil as well as making your skin red, inflamed and sore. Sometimes when you adulterate the skin with hectic scrubbing it causes long-term damage and in some skins leads to pigmentation. Forget it if you think you can then hide behind a foundation because it won't work and will exacerbate your problem.

GOALS

To create a 'ZIT FREE ZONE'. To heal existing lesions, reduce the chances of new lesions forming, help prevent scarring ,repair residual scarring. To achieve a clear, smooth, glowing skin without blemishes, pigmentation and scars. Remember scars can remain with you for life and are a constant reminder.

THE ROAD TO TAKE

Firstly, it is quite surprising the difference you can make by cleansing and exfoliating with the right stuff. Remember be gentle and follow the phenomenally simple, effective, RégimA High Performance route. CLEANSING helps unplug the oil & sweat from the pores, minimizing the chances of blackhead formation and helping clear out. Just the right amount of DAILY MOISTURIZATION helps normalize those oily and dry patches as many people have a combination skin type but they tend to just focus on the oily areas. Sun protection is essential, don't bake and regret later. When you sleep this is the time for your body to recouperate and regenerate. Well this is also the time for your skin to relax, recover, so NIGHT REPARATION is essential. The use of the wrong or harsh products now comes back to bite you on the butt in years to come!

BASIC INFORMATION ON SOME OF THE ACTIVES THAT WE ARE QUESTIONED ABOUT?

Retinol (Vitamin A) - Retinol is available in many forms. Some are known to be irritant. We give assurance that we use several forms of Vitamin A and all are safe and none irritating. We use pure retinol palmitate, which is the most skin friendly, giving all the benefits of Vitamin A without any side effects. Some of the products contain beta carotene and carrot oil, other natural forms of Vitamin A. One must always bear in mind that the secret is within the formulation of the RégimA products!! We introduce into some of our formulations upto 1000,000 units per volume of pure Retinol. This is safe and extremely effective as an antioxidant, anti-free radical scavenger, helps rebuild damaged collagen and elastin, improving the condition of the support structure of the skin, improving damaged or wrinkled skins.

Alpha Lipoic The 'Universal Antioxidant' Anti-Ageing - Alpha Lipoic has a long history in Europe and when present in sufficient concentrations, acts as the anchor of the antioxidant network. Alpha lipoic is a small molecular substance able to penetrate the skin. This most powerful antioxidant scavenges damaging, ageing free radicals. It energizes the cells giving them more carrying capacity, enabling them to repair and regenerate more quickly and function better. This is obviously most essential in the ageing skin where cell metabolism is slower. Alpha Lipoic is fat and water soluble and known to stimulate other vitamins such as Vitamin C and E to function better, supplying more anti-free radical power and DNA protection. Alpha Lipoic is also known for it's anti-inflammatory properties. This ingredient is an extremely effective rejuvenator. It can be seen to plump out wrinkles, smoothing out the skin, and when combined with Vitamin C in this form, helps even out skin colour.

Copper Peptides - Copper peptides are effective in skin regenerating, aiding removal of blemishes and scars. They help activate the natural human biological processes that rebuild and renew skin, nails and hair. This produces a skin, nail and hair biology more like that when you were young. Clinical studies have found copper-peptides to be effective in restoring the skin's collagen along with Vitamin C and retinoic acid (retin-A). Copper-peptides also activate the skin's system that removes damaged collagen and elastin from the skin and from scar tissue. Dermal collagen and elastin, which degrade during ageing, is rebuilt leaving a firmer, more elastic skin. The water-holding proteins in the skin (the proteoglycans) are increased, resulting in a moist, naturally hydrated skin. The blood microcirculation is rebuilt, giving the skin a better supply of nutrients and improving skin colour. Oxidative damage to the skin is reduced as the nutritional copper ion activates the skin's naturally-occurring anti-oxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase, which combats free-radical damage.

The copper-peptide products are all exceptionally safe and have passed many rigorous safety tests. When copper-peptides are applied to the skin only a small fraction of the copper - about 0.1% - actually penetrates into the skin but this is sufficient to accelerate the skin's natural regenerative mechanisms. Used in Radical Difference Myorelaxing Serum, Equilibrium Acne Serum, New Dynamix and New Generation in-Salon applications.

Yeast Extract & Vit B - Yeast extracts consist of Glycoproteins, which are a rich source of Vitamins B2 and B6. Vitamin B2 regulates proper metabolism of fatty acids which may be decomposed by bacteria and worsen the condition of acne-prone skin. Vitamin B6 controls the activity of sebaceous glands, while preventing excess water retention and puffiness, assists in minimizing enlarged pores, eliminates impurities, refreshes and smoothes the skin, and prevents additional formation of blemishes and blackheads.

L-Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) - Vitamin C comes in several forms. However, the only truly beneficial form which has the ability to act on the dermis (true, living skin) is L-Ascorbic. Other vitamin C derivatives may be found as ascorbyl palmitate and magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (vitamin C esters) etc. The derivatives are easier to stabilize so they are the ones

generally to be found in over the counter cosmetic products. However, they are unable to work any deeper than the epidermis (outer horny, dead layer). Studies have shown that derivatives with a neutral or more alkaline pH are not absorbed. Research has shown that when comparing L-Ascorbic Acid and Ascorbyl Palmitate, the latter was ineffective in comparison. For any of these derivatives to have any impact on the skin they would have to be in extremely high concentrations to have the same potency. Manufacturers have, in certain cases, substituted vitamin C derivatives for esters in an attempt to solve the problem of product stability. In order for any of these compounds to work they must penetrate the skin and then be chemically converted by the skin cells into L-Ascorbic Acid. Scientific studies show that for vitamin C to be beneficial to the skin it MUST be in the form of L-Ascorbic Acid as it is the only form the body can recognize. It must be in this active form and MUST be at a low, acid pH to achieve skin penetration as the skin is an excellent barrier protecting against outside substances entering the body. In this way higher levels of ascorbic acid can be targeted directly to the skin by topical application, that cannot be achieved by diet. L-Ascorbic acid provides photoprotection, prevents UV immunosuppression, a reaction which occurs in more than 90% of skin cancer patients. L-Ascorbic acid stimulates collagen synthesis. Collagen is the main protein of skin and continued synthesis is essential to maintain a healthy skin as collagen decreases with age and sun damage. This is achieved by neutralizing reactive oxygen free-radicals, the highly reactive molecules produced when sunlight interacts with cell membranes and other skin tissue. L-Ascorbic is a powerful antioxidant, protecting the skin against, and reducing, harmful effects caused by UVA and UVB rays. It is capable of controlling the inflammatory response associated with ultraviolet light (helping to prevent sunburn) as well as being protective when applied after sun exposure. It is therefore an aid to sunscreens. We read about the reservoir effect. This means that L-Ascorbic Acid applied topically to the skin (essentially at the perfect low pH level) remains active within the skin for 3 days. It cannot be washed off and the effectiveness is not reduced by perspiration. Topical application of L-Ascorbic Acid is helpful in speeding the healing process.

Elastin - RégimA's Elastin is a unique synthesized replica of human elastin which is accepted by the body repairing, thickening, re-elastisizing. We WILL NOT use animal elastin. Animal elastin (protein) is too large a molecule which cannot penetrate and is rejected by the human body and may be contaminated by diseases such as mad cow disease.

Manufactured in South Africa according to EU Regulations, which are the highest standards in the world.

Exfoliation without any of the scrubbing and trauma. Everyone needs to exfoliate. Although the body does a great job of naturally shedding, it still needs a little bit of help. Exfoliants work by sloughing off dead skin cells that are no longer welcome on your face. The skin that is visible is no more than a thin layer of dead cells in their final stage and ready to fall off, but this does not always happen, especially in an oily skin, so help is required. Papaya is often called the "biological scalpel"and it works by enzymatic action to dissolve dead tissue without affecting living tissue and brilliantly causes no trauma in the process. It contains Vitamins A, B, C, D, E, G, K and an abundance of essential minerals. It also promotes healthy healing of wounds.
